SHARE is now Integrated with UAMS Family Medical Centers’ Virence Health’s Centricity EMR System across Arkansas

Little Rock, Arkansas – July, 2019 SHARE, the state’s only statewide health information exchange, recently connected to all eleven UAMS Family Medical Center clinics under UAMS Regional Programs that facilitate patient care using Virence Health’s Centricity EMR System in the following cities across Arkansas: Fayetteville, Springdale, Helena, Texarkana, Pine Bluff, Fort Smith, Batesville, Jonesboro, Magnolia.

State Health Alliance for Records Exchange (SHARE), aggregates health data from many major health systems across the state of Arkansas. By doing this the HIE is designed to reduce instances of redundant care by ensuring providers have a complete, holistic view of patient care when making clinical decisions.

Through this interface connection with their Virence Health’s Centricity EMR System, UAMS Family Medical Center Clinics’ are now able to utilize the technologically infrastructure to securely transfer patient lab test results, diagnosis, allergies, conditions, medications to its network of healthcare providers.  Electronic access to a patient’s results gives physicians and other healthcare providers in the patients’ chain of healthcare providers the results of lab tests, patient records such as diagnosis, medical history, discharge summaries, social determinants of health (SDOH), lab results, medications, immunizations, vitals and allergies faster to make sound clinical decisions. This aids in making proper diagnoses, reduces delays in treatment and eliminates redundant testing if a patient is referred to another healthcare provider.

Additionally, SHARE provides access to 24-hour daily reports notifying the clinic providers and care coordinators when their Arkansas Medicaid patients are admitted and discharged from the emergency department and inpatient discharges in real time to assist in meeting the 72-hour follow-up metric. The care coordinators the UAMS Family Medical Centers across Arkansas are also accessing SHAREs’ Virtual Health Record as well, that aggregates patients record outside of their Centricity EMR System enabling more accurate diagnoses, faster and more effective treatment, historical history of a patients’ health that assist in better outcomes for the patient.

About UAMS Family Medical Centers Across Arkansas and UAMS Regional Programs

History of Regional Programs

UAMS Regional Programs, formerly Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), were founded in 1973, through combined efforts of the Governor, the State Legislature, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), as a means to encourage UAMS medical school graduates to remain in Arkansas and help address the state’s shortage and uneven distribution of primary care physicians. UAMS Regional Programs serve as an educational outreach network for UAMS and the principal means to decentralize medical and other health professions education throughout the state. Eight teaching centers in Fayetteville/Springdale, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Pine Bluff, Texarkana, Magnolia, Helena-West Helena, and Batesville expose future health professionals to underserved communities and provide more varied hands-on experiences than they might receive in a traditional urban, academic environment. What began with medical and residency training 45 years ago now also encompasses nursing, pharmacy, mid-level and allied health professions training, as well as a statewide network for health career pipeline programs, continuing professional education, library resources, patient-centered quality care initiatives, and telehealth connections to cutting-edge medicine. Each center serves a multiple county region.
